Hapag-Lloyd concluded the first nine months of 2021 with an EBITDA of 8.2 billion USD (6.8 billion Euro). The EBIT also significantly exceeded the previous year’s level at 6.9 billion USD (5.8 billion Euro). At the same time, the consolidated result improved to 6.7 billion USD (5.6 trillion Euro). <\/strong>Hapag-Lloyd has also appointed Donya-Florence Amer as Chief Information Officer and a member of the Board.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Hamburg) Revenues increased by about 70 percent in the nine-month period of 2021 to 17.9 billion USD (15 billion Euro). A higher average freight rate of 1,818 USD\/TEU (9M 2020: 1,097 USD\/TEU) significantly contributed to this. This substantial increase is primarily due to a persistently high demand for container transport amid tight capacities. Additionally, the transport volume grew to 8,980 TTEU, which is three percent above the previous year’s figure.<\/p>\n

In the nine-month period, transport expenses increased by 16 percent to 8.9 billion USD (7.4 billion Euro). This was driven by higher costs for container handling and an increased average bunker consumption price, which was 452 USD\/t (9M 2020: 402 USD\/t) in the first nine months.<\/p>\n

Despite Operational Challenges<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“Despite all operational challenges, we have recorded an exceptionally strong nine-month result. However, global supply chains are under enormous pressure, which has intensified during the peak season in the third quarter. This unfortunately brings additional operational burdens for carriers, ports, and terminals, but especially for global customers. We will leave no stone unturned to help with suitable offers and contribute to solving the situation through targeted investments and flexible capacity management,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Hapag-Lloyd expects that the earnings dynamics will remain at a high level for the rest of the year. Accordingly, on October 29, the earnings outlook for the entire year was raised: For 2021, an EBITDA in the range of 10.1 to 10.9 billion Euro (previously: 7.6 to 9.3 billion Euro) and an EBIT in the range of 8.7 to 9.5 billion Euro (previously: 6.2 to 7.9 billion Euro) is now expected.<\/p>\n

Donya-Florence Amer Appointed Chief Information Officer<\/h1>\n

The Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has appointed Donya-Florence Amer as a member of the Board in its meeting today. She will join the company as Chief Information Officer on February 1, 2022.<\/p>\n

Donya-Florence Amer (49) began her professional career in 1999 at IBM, where she held various management positions. Since 2017, she has held leadership responsibilities at Bosch, initially as Executive Vice President and a member of the CIO Management Board, and since 2020 as Co-Founder and CEO of Bosch Climate Solutions.<\/p>\n

“With Donya-Florence Amer, we have been able to recruit a highly qualified expert in information technology and digital business modeling. The Supervisory Board is firmly convinced that her extensive experience will significantly support us in further implementing our digitalization strategy,” said Michael Behrendt, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG.<\/p>\n

First Woman on the Board<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The IT board department will be newly established. Donya-Florence Amer will thus be the fifth member of the Board as CIO \u2013 alongside CEO Rolf Habben Jansen, CFO Mark Frese, COO Dr. Maximilian Rothkopf, and CPO Joachim Schlotfeldt. Furthermore, Donya-Florence Amer will be the first woman to join the Board in the then 175-year history of the company.<\/p>\n
