Swissterminal AG, one of the leading Swiss service providers for integrated logistics products, has set itself the goal of reducing the CO2 emissions of its entire operations to zero. An important step towards this goal has already been achieved: The company operates its terminal locations in Switzerland with 100% electricity from renewable energies.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Frenkendorf) To achieve a completely sustainable energy supply, Swissterminal has signed a contract with Renergy GmbH, an independent Swiss electricity broker. This contract provides for the terminal locations in Switzerland to be supplied with energy that comes 100% from Swiss hydropower until 2024.<\/p>\n

“By sourcing green electricity, we emphasize the comprehensive sustainability strategy of our company. In addition, we are preparing for rising energy prices and costs associated with CO2 emissions,” explains Swissterminal CEO Roman Mayer. “This is an important step to achieve our goals: to reduce our CO2 emissions, to help our customers reduce their own ecological footprint, and to contribute to making the logistics industry more sustainable.”<\/p>\n

Hydropower has a CO2 factor of 0 kg\/GJ. Thus, through the contract for green electricity, Swissterminal can avoid indirect greenhouse gas emissions from electricity purchases.<\/p>\n

Continuously Advancing Sustainability Strategy<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In recent years, Swissterminal has continuously advanced its sustainability strategy and developed solutions to reduce emissions. At the same time, the focus has been on expanding business activities. For example, sustainable transport options such as low-emission rail connections are part of the portfolio, including a connection between Switzerland and China since April 2020. At the end of November 2020, Swissterminal also launched an inland shipping service \u2013 the most environmentally friendly form of inland transport \u2013 between terminal locations in Switzerland and the largest seaports in Europe, Rotterdam and Antwerp.<\/p>\n

“The logistics industry has significantly contributed to greenhouse gas emissions in the past. That is why it is very important for us at Swissterminal to show our commitment to a more environmentally friendly future,” explains Mayer. “There is still much to be done, but we hope that today’s announcement inspires other companies to take further action and proves that renewable energies are feasible in logistics.”<\/p>\n
