Jaguar Land Rover, in collaboration with Dematic, is tackling the major project to support the long-term success and sustainability of their supply chain in the UK. The second construction phase of the logistics operations center near Solihull in the West Midlands has commenced. The exterior work on the new facility is now complete.<\/p>\n

(Heusenstamm\/Osford) Dematic has begun the installation of intralogistics equipment and automation technology. After implementation, the systems will initially undergo a thorough testing phase. The site is planned to be fully operational by the end of 2022. In this process, Dematic and Jaguar Land Rover continue their proven partnership, which has existed since the early 1980s.<\/p>\n

The new logistics operations center (Logistics Operations Centre or LOC), which consists of a 92,000 square meter warehouse building and associated offices, aims to meet the increasingly complex supply chain challenges of Jaguar Land Rover and is a key component of the automaker’s future strategy. Jaguar Land Rover has recently committed to “setting the recognized standard in terms of quality and sustainability.” The new facilities will offer a variety of technological advantages that will lead to improvements for customers as well as long-lasting environmental benefits.<\/p>\n

Annual Reduction of Three Million Transport Kilometers<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Due to its location near the main manufacturing plant in Solihull, Jaguar Land Rover expects the new facility to reduce the number of kilometers driven annually for transportation by three million. This will not only significantly lower CO2 emissions but also reduce long-term logistics costs and traffic congestion in the region. At the same time, some of the most advanced automated supply chain technologies will be employed in the LOC. These ensure that the facility achieves maximum output with a minimal footprint.<\/p>\n

Short Distances for Employees<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The automated equipment will commission a high volume of products in the most efficient manner, while the design of the facility follows the principle of goods-to-person: employees do not have to walk long distances to receive the required parts because they come to them. These systems are designed to allow multiple workflows to be carried out on the same production line. This has enabled Jaguar Land Rover and Dematic to reduce the footprint of the facility, and staff can process up to 1,000 pallets per hour.<\/p>\n

Andy Blandford, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Northern Europe at Dematic, comments on the project: “We are excited about the opportunity to work with a company like Jaguar Land Rover, which is committed to industry-leading standards in sustainability and technology.
