K\u00fchne+Nagel introduces the Seaexplorer disruption indicator to measure the efficiency of global container shipping networks. The indicator shows the cumulative TEU*-waiting time in days at the ports of Prince Rupert, Vancouver\/Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles\/Long Beach, New York, Savannah, Hong Kong, Shanghai\/Ningbo, as well as Rotterdam\/Antwerp.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Schindellegi) A disruption indicator for sea freight from K\u00fchne+Nagel. An example illustrates how the indicator is calculated: A ship with a capacity of 10,000 tons that waits 12 days to enter a port corresponds to 120,000 TEU-waiting days. Another ship with 5,000 TEU that waits 10 days to enter the same port corresponds to 50,000 TEU-waiting days. The total TEU-waiting time amounts to 170,000 TEU-waiting days.<\/p>\n

The disruption indicator provides insights as well as advanced analyses and trends regarding the current situation affecting global trade. Currently, the indicator shows a waiting time and volume of 11.6 million TEU-days – a persistently high level. In these nine specific ports, a normal value would be less than one million TEU-waiting days. Currently, about 80% of the disruptions are attributed to North American ports.<\/p>\n

Supplement to Previous Disruption Reports<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The indicator is an extension of the overview provided by K\u00fchne+Nagel’s renowned Seaexplorer regarding global disruptions in sea freight traffic. According to the latest Seaexplorer data, there are currently 612 container ships anchored or drifting off the major ports of the world.<\/p>\n
