In June of this year, a new trimodal terminal in Lauterbourg on the French Upper Rhine will begin operations. This will provide the region between Strasbourg and Karlsruhe with an additional handling capacity of 80,000 TEU annually for the establishment of multimodal logistics chains. Additionally, heavy cargo loading will also be possible there.<\/p>\n

(Duisburg\/D; Lauterbourg\/F) The operating company Lauterbourg Rhine Terminal (LRT) consists of four prominent French and German players. These are Paris Terminal, Compagnie Fluviale de Transport, Port Autonome de Strasbourg, and Haeger & Schmidt Logistics. “The expanded terminal has ideal conditions for trimodal handling and is a strategic extension of our presence in the Upper Rhine region,” explains Heiko Br\u00fcckner, Managing Director of Haeger & Schmidt Logistics.<\/p>\n

The recently modernized facility features a portal crane on the water side with a capacity of up to 29 containers per hour. For rail handling, two half-train tracks of 400 m each are available. Two new reach stackers will handle the loading and unloading of trucks.<\/p>\n

Integration into Existing Services<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The terminal will be integrated into the existing liner services of Haeger & Schmidt Logistics via inland shipping and rail between the Upper Rhine ports and the western ports. “With a strong economic hinterland in Germany and Alsace, the northern location is a good complement to ETK Euro Terminal Kehl and the Rhine Europe Terminals in Strasbourg,” evaluates Br\u00fcckner.<\/p>\n

He adds: “Furthermore, it is interesting for us to develop the heavy lift business in addition to container handling, both core competencies of our company.” For project cargo, Lauterbourg Rhine Terminal is equipped with a Ro\/Ro ramp and a heavy lift crane with a lifting capacity of 200 t.<\/p>\n
