The chairman of the Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BIEK), Marten Bosselmann, comments on the agreement between the federal government and the states on a new fine catalog. Instead of higher fines, he demands parking spaces and stopping options for delivery traffic.<\/p>\n

(Berlin) “Appropriate fines and controls of stopping and parking bans are sensible. However, the announcement of higher fines for violations of stopping and parking bans can only be described as symbolic politics until more safe stopping options for delivery traffic are created. In most cities, there are not enough proper stopping options. Delivery traffic does not take place as a groundless end in itself, but serves a strong demand. Parcel services are essential for businesses and private recipients. Therefore, the solution for delivery traffic is not merely the increase of fines, but the establishment of commercial loading zones that we demand.<\/p>\n

Existing loading zones currently poorly regulated<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Delivery traffic needs parking spaces and employees need safe working areas. The existing loading zones are currently poorly regulated and are therefore often misused. Moreover, there are simply too few loading zones available. Dedicated parking spaces, for example, for the taxi industry are regulated by traffic law and have proven effective. To mark exclusive commercial loading areas, a new traffic sign ‘Loading Zone’ should be introduced into the road traffic regulations. A clear marking and the possibility of consistent enforcement of misconduct will significantly counteract the problem of parking in the second row. A mere adjustment of the fine catalog, on the other hand, is unlikely to be successful. In the transitional phase until the introduction of the new traffic sign, delivery parking permits \u2013 analogous to the already existing craftsman parking permits \u2013 can provide relief and contribute to ensuring the fast and reliable delivery of goods to people in the cities.”<\/p>\n
