With four national connections, Kombiverkehr KG launched its new transport system to and from Hannover Lehrte last night. This integrates the new rapid transshipment facility into the national and international network of the operator.<\/p>\n

(Frankfurt\/Main; Hannover) After the arrival of the first trains from Duisburg and Ludwigshafen, the incoming loading units were reassigned in the facility between 3 AM and 5 AM for their destination points L\u00fcbeck D\u00e4nischburg CTL and L\u00fcbeck Skandinavienkai, and loaded onto the outbound trains, which left the MegaHub around 6:30 AM. “Together with DB Cargo and all employees of the transshipment facility, we have made the rail-rail transshipment in Hannover Lehrte a reality, and thus the fundamental system idea of the MegaHub. The unique advantage of the facility \u2013 the rapid change of loading units between trains in a particularly short time \u2013 is now visible,” comments Armin Riedl, Managing Director of Kombiverkehr, on the traffic launch.<\/p>\n

New System Offering Creates Flexibility for Logistics Providers<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In the now realized start phase, the Frankfurt intermodal specialist has connected the terminals Ludwigshafen KTL, Duisburg Ruhrort Hafen DUSS, L\u00fcbeck D\u00e4nischburg CTL, and the Baltic Rail Gate at L\u00fcbeck Skandinavienkai in direct train traffic with Hannover Lehrte. Through the CTL terminal of Lehmann, continental intermodal transport with Kombiverkehr is possible as far as Stockholm and G\u00e4vle. The L\u00fcbeck quays serve particularly as intermodal transit stations for traffic to and from Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the Baltic states via ferry or by rail over the \u00d8resund Bridge. On April 26, Munich-Riem and Verona Interterminal will follow as additional shipping and receiving stations. Through the MegaHub as a central hub, all connected terminals can be linked together. The connections are designed so that trains arrive between 8 PM and 6 AM and have only short waiting times. With the new system offering from Kombiverkehr, freight forwarders and logistics companies already today receive a new variety in accessing important economic locations and ports in Europe. “Our forwarding customers will immediately benefit from new continuously bookable and fast routings, which we plan to expand in a second development phase in the future. Additionally, with the now successful traffic launch, we have connected the economic region of Hannover to our overall network,” says Managing Director Alexander Ochs. The company is already in discussions for the planning of the future expansion of the transport system.<\/p>\n

Intermodal Location Advantage for the Hannover Region<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The MegaHub is located at a significant transport junction in Germany, thus in geographically optimal transport position, both road and rail. With the connection of the MegaHub to the networks, the logistics location Hannover is now further strengthened. While previously only Verona in Northern Italy was included in the timetable, industry, trade, and logistics companies now have a colorful bouquet of national and international connections available for shifting road transport to the climate-friendly rail. Hannover is not only connected to the direct destination terminals but also, in gateway traffic, among others, with Madrid, Trieste, Pendik near Istanbul, Vienna, Budapest, or Hallsberg and Stockholm in Sweden.<\/p>\n

Special Control System and Automated Guided Vehicles Ensure Fast Transshipment<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The rapid transshipment facility MegaHub Lehrte, in which Kombiverkehr KG holds a 16.67 percent stake alongside the German Transshipment Company Rail-Road (DUSS), started operations with the transshipment of goods between trucks and trains in June 2020 after approximately two years of construction. Since the groundbreaking in May 2018, six transshipment tracks, each about 700 meters long, and three portal cranes have been built on the approximately 120,000 square meter site of the former marshalling yard in Lehrte. A special operational control system manages the interaction between crane, longitudinal conveyor system, and resources. This achieves an extremely effective transshipment maximization while considering the required time windows. Waiting and downtime are avoided, and energy consumption and wear are minimized. So-called Automated Guided Vehicles, fully electric driverless vehicles, transport loading units longitudinally between the portal cranes.<\/p>\n
