Kombiverkehr KG launches a direct train between L\u00fcbeck and Verona with connections to Northern Europe and the Baltic. The service will commence on February 1, 2021. The connection is also suitable for trailers with a height of four meters and a load capacity of up to 28 tons. The service is already bookable today in gateway traffic.<\/p>\n

(Frankfurt\/Main, December 10, 2020) Kombiverkehr KG, one of Europe’s leading operators in intermodal rail freight transport, will further enhance the attractiveness of combined transport on the significant North-South corridor between Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic States, and Italy with an additional full train product.<\/p>\n

Eleven Weekly Departures<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Starting on February 1, 2021, a new direct train will operate three times a week in each direction between L\u00fcbeck-Skandinavienkai and Verona Quadrante Europa in Northern Italy via Brenner. This will provide eleven weekly departures from Verona to Sweden and nine weekly departures from Verona to Finland. The traffic days for the new train are Monday, Thursday, and Saturday from Verona, and Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from L\u00fcbeck. On all other traffic days, the shipment of loading units via alternative routes will also be possible.<\/p>\n

The Frankfurt-based company already offers daily train departures on this route in gateway traffic with comparable transit times via Hamburg. In Sweden, in addition to Trelleborg, Malm\u00f6, and Stockholm, the terminal in Hallsberg is accessible via its own domestic full train product, and Oslo in Norway is reachable via Trelleborg. From L\u00fcbeck, the Finnish ports of Uusikaupunki, Turku, Hanko, and Helsinki, as well as Liepaja in Latvia and Klaipeda in Lithuania, are also directly accessible.<\/p>\n

Supplement in Northern European Traffic<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“Our new offering stands out for its speed and complements our network in Northern European traffic. Not only can our customers book a wide range of efficient routings with Kombiverkehr via all routes \u2013 whether fixed crossings or via the Baltic Sea ports of Kiel, L\u00fcbeck, and Rostock. With the new direct train and coordinated transfer times with the ferry companies at Skandinavienkai in L\u00fcbeck, transit times between Italy and Sweden of under 48 hours and 72 hours for Finland traffic are possible. These are times that are nearly impossible by road with a truck,” says Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales at Kombiverkehr KG, about the advantageous offer for freight forwarders and logistics companies. “Additionally, there is the environmental bonus that the responsible industrial company can account for. Just for the transport of a semi-trailer with an increased loading weight of 28 tons in intermodal transport, 2.8 tons or over 60 percent of carbon dioxide are saved on the simple connection from Northern Italy to Hallsberg in Sweden. The inherently low-emission rail with electric traction and the latest generation ferries with partially electric drive motors result in a very positive climate balance when combining the modes of transport.<\/p>\n

Seamless Booking<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Bookings for tank containers, swap bodies, and trailers with a corner height of up to four meters are possible seamlessly with Kombiverkehr to the destination port or terminal in Sweden and Norway. This saves customers of the intermodal operator from cumbersome administrative efforts. With just one booking and one invoice for the entire transport, order processing is particularly efficient. Freight forwarders who purchase the ferry themselves can, in contrast, only book the pure rail service between Verona and L\u00fcbeck.<\/p>\n
