The race, which is focused on environmental protection, started on November 8 in Les Sables-d&#8217;Olonne on the French Atlantic coast.<\/p>\n<p>(Monaco\/Hamburg) Raising awareness for climate neutrality in the shipping industry as well as for the health of the oceans \u2013 this is the common goal of K\u00fchne+Nagel, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, and MSC. They are all committed to protecting the seas and promoting sustainable shipping, supporting the yacht racing team Malizia, which took on its latest challenge on November 8: Vend\u00e9e Globe 2020, the toughest regatta in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Seaexplorer &#8211; Yacht Club de Monaco&#8221; is participating in the regatta for the first time and is under the command of German world-class skipper Boris Herrmann. On all voyages \u2013 including the current regatta \u2013 the professional racing team collaborates with scientists and climate institutes to better understand the role of the oceans in the global climate.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Regatta Slogan for Environmental Protection: &#8220;A Race We Must Win&#8221;<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The sails of the Seaexplorer bear the message &#8220;A Race We Must Win&#8221; \u2013 a call for environmental protection in the race against time. During the Vend\u00e9e Globe, Boris Herrmann collects data on temperature, salinity, as well as pH and CO2 levels of the water. This data is intended to help investigate the impacts of climate change on the oceans. Just as Boris Herrmann does for science, the partners Hapag-Lloyd, Kuehne+Nagel, CMA CGM, and MSC create transparency about the CO2 emissions of the shipping industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hapag-Lloyd is committed to a cleaner future for our industry,&#8221; says Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd AG. &#8220;We have taken significant steps in recent years to improve our own environmental footprint, and we have succeeded in reducing our CO2 emissions per TEU\/kilometer by more than 50 percent since 2008. We believe that sustainability is more of a marathon than a 100-meter sprint.
