Gebr\u00fcder Weiss aims to continue expanding in the air and sea freight sectors in Germany despite Corona. Dr. Lothar Thoma, Managing Director Air & Sea, stated at an event hosted by the Aircargo Club Germany (ACD) that this has been successfully implemented thanks to investments in digitalization.<\/p>\n

(Frankfurt) The Austrian logistics company Gebr\u00fcder Weiss is pursuing an ambitious growth plan despite the global Corona pandemic. The company also wants to expand in the air and sea freight sectors in Germany. This was announced by Dr. Lothar Thoma, Managing Director Air & Sea at Gebr\u00fcder Weiss, at the recent event of the Aircargo Club Germany (ACD). Furthermore, he provided insights into how the traditional company is successfully implementing its expansion strategy despite challenging conditions through a digitalization initiative and teamwork.<\/p>\n

Gebr\u00fcder Weiss is one of the oldest companies in the logistics industry and has achieved unprecedented growth over the past three decades. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the family-owned company based in Austria has expanded initially in Central and Eastern Europe and, in light of increased global division of labor, also in Asia. Today, the logistics provider is represented at over 150 locations. Recently, the company opened new offices in South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Expansion in Germany as well<\/strong><\/h5>\n

At the Aircargo Club Germany, Dr. Lothar Thoma, Managing Director Air & Sea at Gebr\u00fcder Weiss, announced plans to continuously expand its presence in Germany. A first step in this direction was the acquisition of the operational business of Ipsen Logistics in Germany, Poland, and Malaysia this year. “By taking over the customers and employees of Ipsen Logistics, we have strategically strengthened our position in the important air and sea market in Germany. The addition of our global network with the new locations in Germany opens up new development opportunities for both our customers and our employees,” explained Dr. Thoma to the interested members of the ACD.<\/p>\n

However, due to the global Corona pandemic, the logistics provider faced the challenge of connecting the new locations and employees almost entirely remotely. “The crisis has shown us that new locations can be integrated through digital solutions without having to be on-site. To optimally integrate and protect the business and colleagues, we quickly equipped over 1,000 colleagues with home office devices and implemented safety measures at the locations,” said Dr. Thoma. Furthermore, the company created a new online customer portal called “myGW,” where customers can not only receive real-time information about their goods flows but also quickly and easily get in touch with the logistics company.<\/p>\n

Digital Strategies are Important<\/h5>\n

Prof. Dr. Christopher Stoller, President of the Aircargo Club Germany, also referred to the importance of digital strategies and solutions: “The successful integration of the new locations into the Gebr\u00fcder Weiss corporate structure once again highlights how important the topic of digitalization is in the present. However, there is still a strong need for action in many companies, not only in developing new businesses but also in creating paperless and transparent supply chains. As the Aircargo Club Germany, we will continue to promote the exchange of ideas in the industry to make the air freight sector fit for the digital future.”<\/p>\n
