DB Cargo and the steel producer ArcelorMittal, Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt plant, have signed a ten-year contract for the supply of raw materials to the plant. DB Cargo is investing in two semi-automated filling plants and new rail cars and containers in Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt. The contract will commence in the summer of 2021.<\/p>\n

(Mainz\/Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt) DB Cargo has concluded a ten-year contract with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel manufacturer and Europe’s largest steel producer, for the supply of the blast furnace in Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt. DB Cargo thus secures raw material deliveries for one of the largest steel sites in Germany until 2031.<\/p>\n

DB Cargo is investing in top logistics for its customer: For the transport of ore, coke, and limestone, the freight railway will procure 352 multifunctional double wagons with a total of 1,408 special containers by the summer of next year. The logistics provider Innofreight has specifically designed them for the transport of these raw materials and optimized their loading capacity. DB Cargo will also have two semi-automated unloading facilities constructed at the Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt plant by its partner and will operate them itself. The new services will start immediately afterward. A total of up to 4.2 million tons of raw materials can then be transported annually.<\/p>\n

DB Cargo has been supplying ArcelorMittal for many years<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“As the backbone of the German economy, we have been supplying ArcelorMittal with raw materials for many years and transporting the produced steel to customers, particularly for the automotive industry and plant engineering. For this long-standing collaboration, we are now investing significantly: Our new wagons for ArcelorMittal feature a durable chassis, while the removable superstructure is designed for more frequent replacement. The highlight: We can individually adapt the superstructure to changing requirements,” explains Pierre Timmermans, Sales Executive of DB Cargo.<\/p>\n

State-of-the-art raw material logistics<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“ArcelorMittal Eisenh\u00fcttenstadt is implementing one of the most modern raw material logistics in Europe here,” says Sybille Klipstein, Lead Buyer Rail at ArcelorMittal. “By using specially optimized container types for the different properties of ore, coke, and limestone, we can increase the net loading per train by around 20 percent, thus requiring significantly fewer trains. This is environmentally friendly and reduces our shunting effort at the plant. Additionally, the automated unloading provides employees with a dust-free and noise-protected workplace. This sets new standards in terms of efficiency, environmental protection, and occupational safety.”<\/p>\n
