The new direct connection, implemented in cooperation between \u00c7obantur Boltas and DFDS Mediterranean Business Unit, the Turkey division of DFDS, expands the offer of sustainable transport between Europe, Turkey, and beyond.<\/p>\n

(Allersberg) \u2013 The first train on the new route left Trieste last Thursday, November 5, and arrived at the TriCon terminal in the bayernhafen N\u00fcrnberg on Friday, November 6, 2020. The connection is part of the intermodal freight transport to Turkey, Greece, and the adjacent economic areas. The new full train is operated by DFDS and connects N\u00fcrnberg, via Trieste, with Pendik and Ambarli in Turkey as well as Patras in Greece, each with regional and long-distance pre- and post-hauls.<\/p>\n

Successful Launch of the New Connection<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The weekly train consists of 4 double pocket wagons and 26 flat wagon groups with a capacity of 8 mega trailers and 26 45-foot containers. An increase in the offer to 2 – 3 weekly departures is planned for the near future.<\/span><\/p>\n

The President of the DFDS Mediterranean Business Unit, Lars Hoffmann, emphasized the importance of the N\u00fcrnberg – Trieste connection as a strategic development: “The DFDS Mediterranean Business Unit has become the operator of the new direct rail connection N\u00fcrnberg – Trieste in partnership with \u00c7obantur Boltas, thereby further improving our sustainable supply chain services. We are very pleased to have expanded our service portfolio with another strategically important service.”<\/p>\n

A Strong Intermodal Infrastructure<\/strong><\/h5>\n

As one of the largest integrated shipping and logistics companies in Europe and operator of tight route networks in the North and Baltic Seas, the English Channel, and the Mediterranean, DFDS offers a strong intermodal transport infrastructure, with Ro-Ro services between Turkey and Europe as well as rail connections from Italy.<\/p>\n

DFDS has decided to establish an intermodal competence center in Cologne, Germany, as rail solutions are considered an important part of future business. This new route is the first success project of the competence center and the joint venture with primeRail GmbH.<\/p>\n

The Turkish-German logistics alliance \u00c7obantur Boltas, based in Maltepe\/Istanbul and Allersberg\/N\u00fcrnberg, has been handling transports via Trieste for 20 years. “With the new offer, we are expanding our range of robust and sustainable connections between these now closer economic areas with the support of DFDS,” says Iskender Cobanoglu, member of the Board of Directors at Cobantur Boltas and Managing Director of the German Boltas GmbH.<\/p>\n

Turkish-German logistics alliance consisting of the legally independent companies Cobantur, founded in 1982 (Turkey) and Boltas, founded in 1978 (Germany).
