In July, there was a tremendous boost, which subsided again in August and September. Payments continue to be delayed, causing suppliers to struggle with liquidity shortages.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Transport and Logistics Sector Benefits from E-Commerce<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>One sector that has benefited from the shift to e-commerce is the transport and logistics sector. Many T&amp;L companies were able to offset traditional B2B courier activities by transitioning to e-commerce. Trade activities across the sector remained relatively lively throughout the entire second quarter, and this continued into the third quarter.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>General Data<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_6384\" style=\"width: 416px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6384\" class=\"wp-image-6384\" src=\"https:\/\/loginfo24.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/12\/Tradeshift_22.10.2020-2-300x247.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"406\" height=\"334\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Figures Industrial sectors &#8211; \u00a9 Tradeshift Inc.<\/p><\/div>Transactions in the Eurozone grew the most, by 25.7% in the third quarter. Trade activities between buyers and suppliers in the USA also exceeded the global average with a growth of 17% in the third quarter. Here, the pent-up demand after the lockdown in July led to an increase in orders of 85.5% compared to the monthly average in the second quarter. The Eurozone and the US are thus approaching pre-lockdown levels. In contrast, activities in the UK continue to decline. Trade activity in China has not yet returned to pre-COVID levels. China remains highly volatile. Activity increased in March and April and again in July, but has since sharply declined in both August and September. Similar deceleration patterns are also observed in other areas. Several factors may explain this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The abrupt lockdown restrictions created a pressure cooker environment for supply chains. As the restrictions began to ease, orders increased significantly. This momentum continued into July and then subsided as supply lines normalized.<\/li>\n<li>The decline in orders in the second quarter also led to a financial &#8220;hangover effect&#8221; that persisted into the third quarter. Forty-five-day payment terms are now standard in supply chains worldwide, meaning that the decline in orders in the second quarter led to liquidity issues in the third quarter. The global order volume increased by 20.1% in Q3, while invoice payments to suppliers only rose by 14.1%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>Supply Chain Financing Supports Suppliers with Liquidity Shortages<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Globally, orders increased by 20.3% in Q3, but the invoice volume could not keep pace with an increase of only 14.1%. The Eurozone is the only region that consistently exceeds the global average, primarily due to a significant increase in orders at the end of the second quarter, which is now reflected in supplier payments. The improvement in order volume in the third quarter is expected to provide suppliers with a welcome cash flow boost towards the end of the year. Whether all companies can hold out until then is another question. An average small business has about 27 days of cash available to survive without income. Many suppliers currently cannot afford to wait for invoice due dates. Therefore, innovative financing models that release liquidity faster are in higher demand than ever. &#8220;With our product Tradeshift Cash, we support companies and suppliers in this liquidity crisis.
