WITRON Logistics + Information GmbH is optimizing the logistics center of REWE in Neu-Isenburg, Hesse. The work is being carried out during ongoing operations and leads to an economic improvement of the processes. The commissioning is scheduled for mid-2021.<\/p>\n

(Parkstein\/Neu-Isenburg) In order to continue responding flexibly to the dynamic purchasing behavior, the grocery retailer REWE is optimizing the entire supply chain process for large-volume items with low sales frequency in the Neu-Isenburg logistics center in collaboration with WITRON during ongoing operations. Productive use is scheduled for mid-2021.<\/p>\n

More than 5,000 different, slowly rotating products such as canned vegetables or wine containers will in the future be ergonomically and store-appropriately picked from a 5-aisle automated small parts warehouse (AKL) with a total of 25,000 storage locations at four workstations onto store pallets or roll containers. This process not only generates economic and logistical advantages but also ecological ones \u2013 as REWE will need to transport about 30% fewer containers to the market and back to the logistics center.<\/p>\n

No structural changes to the building
\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In this regard, the “goods-to-person” solution OPS (Order Picking System) will be precisely connected to the existing container picking system DPS (Dynamic Picking System). In close coordination with the customer and the architect, the picking system chosen by WITRON has been designed in such a way that no structural changes to the existing building need to be made.<\/p>\n

Both modules interact intelligently in inventory management and picking, allowing all items to be picked in both OPS and DPS. A WITRON warehouse management system dynamically determines the most suitable picking system based on priority, depending on the “most economical pick”, “fastest pick”, daily volume, season, or the respective product group. Furthermore, the existing DPS repack will also be used for repacking into the OPS containers. The storage in the OPS system can then take place either in a single step directly from the repack into the OPS or in two steps with intermediate buffering in the DPS.<\/p>\n

Maximum customer service<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Since early 2015, the grocery retailer REWE has been supplying around 6,500 customers across Germany from its logistics center in Neu-Isenburg with a dry assortment of 17,500 different items. WITRON modules for efficient case, piece, half, and full pallet picking ensure an economical supply of all markets with maximum customer service. On peak days, more than 500,000 picking units are picked store-appropriately. The overall layout of the facility was already developed during the planning phase in collaboration with WITRON and REWE to be flexible and sustainable in adapting to new requirements regarding growing volumes, number of items, and constantly changing business processes. It was also taken into account that future expansions can be integrated largely without problems during ongoing operations \u2013 both IT-wise and mechanically.<\/p>\n
