The Japanese truck manufacturer FUSO, part of the Daimler Group, presents the concept vehicle eCanter SensorCollect with a waste collection structure. The presentation took place during the ‘FUSO Future Innovation Lab’. The vehicle aims to make waste logistics more efficient and environmentally friendly in the future.<\/p>\n

(Stuttgart\/Tokyo) FUSO, the Japanese commercial vehicle subsidiary of Daimler Truck, once again demonstrates its leading role in the development of innovative trucks with advanced technologies. During the ‘FUSO Future Innovation Lab’ event, the company presents the eCanter SensorCollect concept truck during a demonstration drive at its headquarters in Kawasaki.<\/p>\n

The FUSO eCanter SensorCollect is a concept vehicle with a waste collection structure based on the fully electric FUSO eCanter. The vehicle concept aims to make municipal waste disposal more efficient and environmentally friendly with a locally emission-free light truck. For this purpose, the FUSO eCanter SensorCollect can be controlled wirelessly from a distance by an accompanying person through a Human Machine Interface (HMI). Equipped with LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors, and high-precision GPS, the truck can safely execute remote commands by recognizing people or objects in its surroundings. These commands include following the operator, avoiding obstacles, and stopping immediately when a person or object comes close to the vehicle. Ultimately, these functionalities can help increase the efficiency of municipal waste disposal.<\/p>\n

Result of an Innovative Approach<\/h5>\n

The FUSO eCanter SensorCollect concept vehicle is the result of an innovative development approach. In addition to traditional product development processes, FUSO has initiated a variety of initiatives both within and outside the company to promote innovative product ideas that address societal needs and challenges. FUSO organized various workshops and hackathons with Japanese and foreign universities, as well as collaborations with startups, inviting external participants. So far, over 100 ideas have emerged from these events.<\/p>\n

“Innovation is one of the main pillars of research and development at FUSO, as it is crucial for long-term market leadership. We will continue to develop innovative products to meet the needs of our customers and society with our advanced technologies,” said Aydogan Cakmaz, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Engineering at FUSO.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the FUSO eCanter proves to be a reliable, locally emission-free light truck, with more than 160 vehicles currently in daily customer use in Japan, Europe, and the USA. In Europe, the eCanter is already operating in Germany, the UK, France, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Denmark in a total of eleven European metropolitan areas.<\/p>\n
