The intralogistics specialist Dematic automates the warehouse of the Spanish supermarket chain Ahorramas in the Madrid region. A six-story automated storage and transport system for pallets has been installed, with a capacity for up to 8,000 Euro or 16,000 half pallets.<\/p>\n

(Heusenstamm \/ Madrid) Dematic has automated the warehouse of the Spanish supermarket chain Ahorramas, S.A. For the food retailer’s facility in Velilla de San Antonio, in the metropolitan area of Madrid, the intralogistics specialist has installed a turnkey solution consisting of an automated high-bay warehouse and an electric overhead conveyor. The six-story storage and transport solution for pallets ensures optimal use of the available space and has been integrated into the existing warehouse. The system now provides space for up to 8,000 Euro or 16,000 half pallets. Additionally, the automation solution increases the efficiency of internal processes at Ahorramas as well as the safety of employees.<\/p>\n

Dematic Knows the Needs of the Food Retail Sector<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“We convinced Ahorramas because we have many years of experience with automated intralogistics solutions and know the specific needs of the food retail sector very well,” says Pablo Ugena, General Manager of Dematic. This knowledge was also crucial in designing the system for the Spanish supermarket chain. Dematic developed a solution that optimally utilizes the available space, thereby helping to maximize storage capacity.<\/p>\n

The turnkey solution consists of a six-story high-bay warehouse and an electric overhead conveyor for the continuous and automatic transport of pallets within the warehouse. The numerous manual processes previously carried out in the Ahorramas warehouse are now a thing of the past. The innovative solution also includes a conveyor system that takes care of all processes from goods receipt to shipping using gravity channels.<\/p>\n

Performance of the Distribution Center Optimized<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Dematic solution prepares orders for both Euro and half pallets at Ahorramas. These processes are also controlled by the Dematic iQ software. “It compresses all operational and management information of the facility and significantly supports the user in making informed decisions and maximizing the performance of the distribution center,” says Ugena. Integrated into Ahorramas’ existing warehouse management system, the software also ensures smooth order processing. Adaptability, reliability, efficiency, and speed are guaranteed at all times.<\/p>\n

For Dematic, the project has been a complete success, and the experiences with Ahorramas have been overwhelmingly positive, Ugena summarizes: “The entire process went smoothly and very pleasantly \u2013 especially since the customer trusted our technology and our project team.” <\/p>\n
