The Rhenus Group acquires a majority stake of 97.2 percent from OT Logistics and the company Carl Robert Eckelmann. Through this acquisition, Rhenus strengthens its presence in East Germany. The purchase price has been kept confidential.<\/p>\n

(Berlin) The Rhenus Group has signed a purchase agreement with the capital group OT Logistics and the company Carl Robert Eckelmann for the majority acquisition of shares in the German Inland Shipping Company. The OT Group and Eckelmann together hold 97.2 percent of the shipping company.<\/p>\n

The German Inland Shipping Company, with offices in Berlin and Hamburg, is primarily active on the East German waterways as well as in Poland. Its focus is on container transport and the transport of dry bulk and heavy cargo. Founded in 1949, the company operates over 700 vessels with a total carrying capacity of around 400,000 tons (DWT).<\/p>\n

“The German Inland Shipping Company promises to be an excellent complement to our current activities. With this acquisition, we can strengthen our presence particularly in the East German canal network and Poland, but also in the Benelux countries, France, and along the Danube. Additionally, the container business fits very well with our activities at Contargo and NWL Norddeutsche Wasserweg Logistik,” says Thomas Maa\u00dfen, spokesperson for the management of Rhenus Transport.<\/p>\n

Focus on Freight Forwarding Services<\/h5>\n

“With the sale of our shares in the German Inland Shipping Company, we primarily want to focus on the development of our port activities and freight forwarding services. This allows us to build the entire logistics chain to and from the end customer. The sale to the Rhenus Group marks a new phase of collaboration, in which we can build long-term relationships in the inland shipping segment with our expertise and the advantages of both partners. Moreover, it is one of the most important steps in implementing the restructuring plan and will significantly reduce the debt of the capital group OT Logistics to its financial creditors,” says Konrad Hernik, CEO of OT Logistics.<\/p>\n

The German Inland Shipping Company is to be continued as an independent company within the Rhenus inland shipping group. The purchase price has been kept confidential.<\/p>\n
