Seven European road transport associations are calling for an extension of the transition period in light of the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Brexit negotiations. At the same time, they warn of the consequences of a No Deal Brexit.<\/p>\n

The demand in its original wording:
(Brussels\/Frankfurt) In light of the uncertainty regarding the outcome of the negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and the EU, the road transport companies represented by our associations: FNTR (France) – BGL (Germany) – NLA (Nordics) – TLN (Netherlands) – FEBETRA (Belgium) – ZMPD (Poland) – FinMobility (Finland) are very concerned.<\/em>
We represent the interests of a sector that mainly consists of small and medium-sized family businesses, which need security and time to prepare ahead of Brexit. Additional costs must be taken into account in the companies’ planning.<\/em>
The current crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic gives the public a better understanding of the key role of road freight transport in the entire economy.<\/em>
A “No Deal” at the end of 2020 would have additional devastating consequences for the transport and logistics industry. Our companies are already suffering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic with its unprecedented economic crisis.<\/em>
Therefore, we call for an extension of the transition period before June 1 and the start of the crucial 4th round of negotiations between the UK and the EU. This time of one or two years will be necessary to clearly establish the rules that must apply uniformly between the two parties.<\/em>
