duisport achieves a positive overall result in 2025
Apr 21, 2026 at 4:15 PMThe shareholders of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH (BERGERecotrail) have decided to sell their remaining shares to Schmitz Cargobull AG. With this decision, Schmitz Cargobull, which has already held 49 percent of Berger since 2024, will become the sole owner of the company. The completion of the transaction is still subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.
Integration as a Strategic Step
The decision for the complete takeover is based on the previous collaboration that has existed since 2024. This partnership has demonstrated that Berger’s lightweight construction expertise, combined with the industrial know-how and the Europe-wide sales and service network of Schmitz Cargobull, forms a powerful overall system. Against this backdrop, the full integration has been prepared as a logical next step.
In 2025, both companies jointly invested in the production facilities at the Radfeld location as well as in the development of the new product line Evolution Generation from BERGERecotrail. This new product line combines Berger’s weight-optimized lightweight chassis with Schmitz Cargobull’s modular and versatile superstructure system.
Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG, commented on the acquisition: “The collaboration has shown how much technical depth and commitment are embedded in the products of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik. With the acquisition, we gain Berger’s pronounced lightweight construction expertise, which ideally complements our portfolio. Our customers will benefit from an even broader range of efficient transport solutions from a single source.”
Growth Through Strong Partnership
Gerhard Berger, principal shareholder of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik, emphasized the advantages of the integration: “The transfer and integration into the Schmitz Cargobull Group is the optimal prerequisite for advancing our technologies more quickly and reaching more customers in Europe. The combination of our lightweight construction expertise with the industrial strength and network of Schmitz Cargobull provides a solid foundation for further growth.”
The integration aims to secure and further expand the lightweight specialization of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik in the long term. Schmitz Cargobull offers the appropriate structures and framework conditions for this purpose.
For customers, the acquisition results in an expanded trailer offering from a single source, which includes Berger’s lightweight solutions and is complemented by Schmitz Cargobull’s Europe-wide sales, service, and spare parts network. Existing products, contacts, and services will remain unchanged.
