Mar 31, 2026 at 3:17 PMGebrüder Weiss launched the fifth edition of the international cycling initiative „GWcycles“ on April 1. The goal of this initiative is to collectively cover one million kilometers while removing up to ten tons of plastic waste from rivers and coastal areas.
Reducing Plastic Waste through Cycling
The concept of the initiative is simple: For every kilometer cycled, Gebrüder Weiss collects and properly disposes of ten grams of plastic waste. The implementation partner is once again the Berlin-based environmental company CleanHub, which specializes in the collection and disposal of plastic waste.
Frank Haas, Head of Corporate Brand Strategy & Communications at Gebrüder Weiss, emphasizes the connection between sustainable mobility and environmental protection: „GWcycles demonstrates how easily sustainable mobility and concrete environmental protection can go hand in hand – kilometer by kilometer.“
Participation in the initiative is open to all interested parties worldwide. The distances covered can be recorded using the free Radbonus app, which is compatible with common fitness trackers. Rewards made from recycled materials are available starting from a distance of 50 kilometers.
