Feb 11, 2026 at 11:25 AMThe recent EU-wide customs control action has revealed alarming results regarding the safety of e-commerce goods from third countries, particularly from China, as reported by SKR AG. According to a statement from the company, commented on by Rico Back (pictured), the Managing Partner, the action shows that a significant portion of products delivered directly to EU consumers does not meet European product and safety standards.
Results of the customs controls
The customs control action, conducted in collaboration with national market surveillance authorities, involved the inspection of approximately 20,000 toys and small electronic items. The results are concerning: more than half of the inspected products did not comply with applicable EU regulations. Furthermore, selected items were tested for safety in laboratories, with 84 percent of the examined products classified as dangerous. These results highlight the challenges faced by European customs. Rico Back emphasizes that the import volumes are so high that they cannot be managed with conventional control mechanisms. „These figures are not an outlier, but rather a reflection of a structural problem,“ explains Back.
