Mar 24, 2026 at 8:31 AMNiedersachsen Ports (NPorts) plans extensive investments in the development of Lower Saxony’s seaports in 2026. A total of 153 million euros is earmarked for port infrastructure, supplemented by 69 million euros for the maintenance and repair of existing facilities. These measures aim to secure the long-term performance of the ports and underscore their strategic importance for the economy, energy supply, and security, as stated by NPorts.
Expansion of port infrastructure
In Emden, a large vessel berth will be constructed to accommodate the increasing cargo volume. Cuxhaven, on the other hand, will receive expanded infrastructure for offshore wind energy, which is intended to highlight the role of the ports in the context of growth and the energy transition. Holger Banik (pictured right), Managing Director of Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG and JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG, emphasizes: “While we implement large infrastructure projects, we are already preparing the next development steps.”
Financial support
Additional funds amounting to 375 million euros will enable the advancement of 21 projects. These funds come from the state budget as well as from the state share of the special fund for infrastructure and climate neutrality. These financial resources are intended to accelerate measures that would otherwise have been realized at a later date. A new project that NPorts could plan with future funds is a multipurpose terminal (MPT) in Wilhelmshaven, which is to connect to the existing JadeWeserPort.
