Challenges and Opportunities in Inland Shipbuilding
Mar 18, 2026 at 11:30 AMThe Spanish airline Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas has extended its long-standing partnership with ULD management specialist Jettainer. Under the new contract, Jettainer will continue to provide comprehensive services for the supply and maintenance of Unit Load Devices (ULDs). Additionally, the airline’s ULD fleet will gradually be equipped with modern IoT tracking technology, enabling real-time monitoring of the entire ULD supply chain.
Since the start of scheduled long-haul flights from its base in Madrid to destinations in South and Central America in 2016, Jettainer has ensured the reliable provision of ULDs for Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas. With the expansion of the route network, the ULD fleet has been continuously adapted to operational requirements.
Integration of Modern Tracking Technology
As part of the contract extension, Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas will be among the first airlines to benefit from Jettainer’s latest IoT tracking solution. This technology not only enables real-time tracking but also provides valuable insights into processes that support further optimization of fleet utilization and performance improvements throughout the lifecycle of each ULD.
The devices, provided in collaboration with Trackonomy, utilize a hybrid approach to data transmission. At large and medium-sized locations, LoRa and BLE readers will be installed, while mobile units will also function as mobile readers, creating a dynamic, self-expanding network using mesh technology. The integration of cellular connections and mesh technology represents a significant advancement in providing customers with greater transparency and efficiency.
Alejandro Casado, COO and AOC Accountable Manager of Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas, commented on the partnership: “Jettainer has supported us on our growth path for many years and remains the ideal partner for top-notch ULD services. The proven reliability of our collaboration, along with the opportunity to further enhance transparency and efficiency through modern IoT technology, were decisive factors in our decision to extend the contract.”
Dr. Jan-Wilhelm Breithaupt, CEO of Jettainer, emphasized the importance of the partnership: “Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas is a valued and strong airline partner. We appreciate the trust expressed through this contract extension. With our unique IoT tracking technology, we will continue to enhance operational performance and provide top-tier ULD management services in the years to come.”
