One Billion for Bremerhaven?
Feb 13, 2026 at 12:07 PMThe Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG celebrated the opening of its new halls at the Weiz location on February 13, 2025. With this expansion, approximately 40,000 square meters of storage and production space are now available for an electrical and energy technology manufacturer. Craiss has operated this site as a Dedicated Warehouse since 2021. The opening ceremony attracted around 300 guests, including representatives from Craiss management, customers, and high-ranking politicians such as State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl and Mayor Bettina Bauernhofer.
Expansion of the Logistics Center
The logistics center in Weiz was opened in 2021. The recent expansion, construction of which began in October 2024, includes not only the new hall space but also 24,000 square meters of outdoor space and 1,520 square meters of office space. These measures are a response to growth and increasing customer demands. The first two new logistics halls were already put into operation in September 2025, while the new production hall was handed over in mid-December 2025. With the opening ceremony on February 13, 2025, the third warehouse will be put into operation.
In Weiz, Craiss offers not only classic warehousing logistics but also additional services, including painting, quality controls, and special packaging solutions. Matthias Diehm, Managing Director of Craiss Generation Logistik GmbH & Co. KG, emphasizes that the Weiz location comprehensively represents the company’s capabilities in contract logistics.
Technological Innovations and Sustainability
Diehm highlights the importance of the digital and automated solutions implemented in Weiz. These include a proprietary Warehouse Management System (WMS) and digital data exchange with the customer. In the long term, Craiss plans to conduct pilot projects in the field of artificial intelligence to further enhance the efficiency of logistical processes.
The opening of the new spaces allows for a consolidation of logistics activities, leading to a reduction in transport routes. Christian Walzl, Managing Director of Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG, explains that since December 2024, two electric trucks have been in operation for shuttle traffic between the logistics center and the customer’s production site. Additionally, the energy supply at the location is largely ensured from renewable sources, including additional photovoltaic systems.
Economic Impulses for the Region
The expansion of the logistics company leads to the creation of new jobs in Weiz and secures existing positions. Walzl emphasizes that the location can flexibly respond to the increasing demands of the customer by, for example, creating new handling or assembly areas. The site expansion was realized in close cooperation with the customer, local authorities, and residents.
With the opening of the new halls, Craiss focuses on a combination of technological advancements and sustainable practices to meet market demands while also making a positive contribution to the regional economy.
