JD launches delivery service “JoyExpress”
Feb 13, 2026 at 11:41 AMFraport has opened a new fast charging park for battery-electric trucks at Frankfurt Airport. This step follows a survey conducted in spring 2025 among around 250 freight forwarders and logistics service providers based at the airport. The results show that the use of electric vehicles in the industry is gaining increasing importance.
Currently, four charging points are available in CargoCity South near Gate 31, offering a charging capacity of up to 400 kilowatts. Michael Kuschel, Head of Energy Networks and Services at Fraport AG, emphasizes the close collaboration with the cargo community at the airport. “Just two years ago, the consensus in the industry was: Electric drive will not prevail for us. But that was already different in spring 2025. The feedback from the surveyed companies was: We have ordered electric vehicles,” explains Kuschel.
Preparation for the Transition
The industry expects a significant transition to battery-electric drives in truck fleets by 2026, according to Fraport. “Fraport is already providing the necessary charging infrastructure at Frankfurt Airport, the central cargo hub of Germany,” Kuschel adds.
The installation of the electric charging stations is part of the „Masterplan CargoHub“ – a project through which Fraport aims to invest in innovative products and processes at the airport. „The goal is to further develop the location as a leading air freight center in Europe,“ the airport states.
