Jan 28, 2026 at 2:10 PMThe global online trade continues to show a sustained dynamic development even in a challenging market environment, particularly in cross-border trade. In response to these trends, Hellmann has introduced a new cross-border product named *near* and has appointed Jan Bierewirtz as Head of Sales E-Commerce. Bierewirtz is expected to drive the international market expansion of the new offering.
Jan Bierewirtz brings over ten years of experience in international e-commerce and has significantly contributed to the development and marketing of modern cross-border shipping solutions throughout his career. Starting in February, he will take responsibility for the market launch and positioning of *near* at Hellmann.
Comprehensive E-Commerce Solution
The product *near* is the result of a partnership announced in autumn 2025 between Hellmann and SkyNet. It is a cross-border e-commerce solution that offers a comprehensive end-to-end service. This solution connects consumers with manufacturers and retailers worldwide and covers all aspects of the e-commerce supply chain. These include warehousing, fulfillment, re-fulfillment, B2C deliveries, and returns management. Companies in the fashion and consumer goods sectors, which ship their products directly to end customers, are expected to benefit from this solution. D2C brands, omnichannel retailers, and online marketplaces can also take advantage of *near*, especially in complex shipping routes, long distances, or demanding returns processes.
Martin Habisreitinger, COO Airfreight at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, emphasizes the importance of cross-border e-commerce: “With annual growth rates of around 20 percent, cross-border e-commerce is one of the key growth drivers and opens up new opportunities for tapping into and developing both existing and new markets. Especially in times of geopolitical upheaval, new customs regulations, and highly fluctuating demand, cross-border trade is not just a matter of reach for many manufacturing companies today, but a strategic element for increasing the flexibility of their supply chains.”
The appointment of Bierewirtz is seen as a step to further tap into the dynamic growth market of cross-border trade.
