DHL extends GoTeach initiative until 2030
Jan 27, 2026 at 4:08 PMThe ThielemannGroup has acquired a construction site in the Rheinhafen Krefeld to establish a logistics campus. On an area of over 60,000 m², two logistics properties with a total of around 40,000 m² of logistics space are to be developed. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2026, while the building application is expected to be submitted in mid-2026.
Strategic Location and Infrastructure
Navid Thielemann, CEO of ThielemannGroup, emphasizes the advantages of the location: “With this area, we secure a top location – directly at the KCT, with the Rhine, rail, and highway at our doorstep.” The Rheinhafen Krefeld offers a powerful infrastructure designed for multimodal container logistics. The adjacent Krefelder Container Terminal (KCT) has two portal cranes and its own rail facilities, enabling direct access to the dense highway network of the Rhine-Ruhr region.
Another aspect is the planned rail connection of the logistics buildings, which will allow for a more environmentally friendly shift of goods flows to rail and waterways. This is intended to help reduce transport emissions. Additionally, Düsseldorf Airport is easily accessible, which is advantageous for time-sensitive shipments.
Patrick A. Wisotzky, Managing Director of Hafen Krefeld GmbH & Co. KG, welcomes the establishment of ThielemannGroup and sees it as a positive signal for the region. He emphasizes that the combination of multimodal infrastructure and a clear future profile strengthens the logistics cluster in Krefeld.
Sustainable Planning and Investments
ThielemannGroup plans to pursue a Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the logistics campus. Planned measures include energy-efficient building technology, a photovoltaic system, and an electric charging infrastructure. The investment volume for the project amounts to approximately 35 million euros.
The RECHT Logistik Gruppe will utilize the new campus as a performance location. About 50 percent of the area has already been allocated to an existing customer from the e-commerce sector. Discussions with potential new customers for the remaining spaces are ongoing. ThielemannGroup is specifically looking for companies that fit into a trimodally connected and sustainable campus.
Christian Karl Flick, COO of ThielemannGroup Holding GmbH and CEO of RECHT Logistik Gruppe, emphasizes the strategic importance of the Krefeld location. He sees it as an opportunity to expand capacities in an attractive market and to optimize processes and lead times.
Expansion of Project Development
In addition to the project in Krefeld, ThielemannGroup is pursuing other developments. A logistics center with 30,000 m² of logistics space is being built in Wernberg-Köblitz in Bavaria, with completion planned by the end of 2026. Preparations for another logistics center in Cologne are also underway, with construction scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026.
Navid Thielemann highlights the synergies between project development and operational practice: “Krefeld is more than just another location for us – the project represents how we bundle our strengths.” The combination of project developer and user from a single source is intended to ensure that customer requirements are met both today and in the future.
