UPS reports $24.5 billion in revenue for Q4/25
Jan 27, 2026 at 5:30 PMThe safeguarding of know-how in the maritime sector is of central importance to German shipping. Since 2013, the Stiftung Schifffahrtsstandort Deutschland has been supporting companies and trainees in this sector with a comprehensive program. In the funding year 2025, an increase in the number of applications for financial support for vocational training compared to the previous year was observed, indicating a growing interest among young people in maritime careers.
Support for Vocational Training Remains Stable
For the year 2026, the foundation will maintain the increased funding amounts for vocational training. Companies involved in the training and education of nautical and technical maritime personnel can continue to count on the foundation’s support. Applications can be submitted through a digital service portal, which allows companies easy handling.
The financial resources for the training of junior officers amount to €9,600 per quarter. For the training of ship mechanics as well as nautical, technical, and electrotechnical officer assistants, €4,200 per quarter is available. This support aims to help training shipping companies secure the next generation.
Continuing Education Measures and Planning Security
In addition to vocational training, the foundation also supports continuing education measures. Starting in early March 2026, companies can submit applications for financial support for courses. The foundation has announced that it will expand funding to include inter-company training in the field of electrotechnical officer assistants. This underscores the importance of continuous education in the nautical-technical field, which is essential for maintaining maritime know-how in Germany.
The compensation amounts to be paid in connection with flagging out will remain unchanged in 2026. This decision provides German shipping companies with planning security and was published in the Federal Gazette on December 11, 2025.
Applications for financial support for the year 2026 can be submitted immediately. The deadline for applications for support of continuing education measures for the year 2025 ends on March 2, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
The application forms for the payment of a compensation amount are available on the foundation’s website at www.stiftung-schifffahrtsstandort.de.
