The Geis Group, a logistics service provider in Central and Eastern Europe, is planning a realignment of its operational freight processes in the Middle Rhine region. Starting March 16, 2026, the IDS freight activities will be consolidated at a newly constructed transshipment terminal at the Logistics Campus in Polch. The headquarters and administrative location of the Geis Group will remain in Neuwied.
Managing partners Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis explain that the processes at the two locations have been analyzed over the past months. The potential for consolidation has become evident. The two locations are only about 30 kilometers apart, which is expected to lead to clearer processes and shorter distances through the merger. This aims to provide customers with greater reliability.
Advantages of the Merger for Customers
The consolidation of activities in Polch brings several advantages. The new transshipment terminal, which covers more than 6,000 square meters, allows for centralized process management. This enables optimization of transport costs in both local and long-distance transport and reduces process costs. In local transport, shuttle trips between the two locations will also be eliminated. Avoiding double handling is expected to positively impact transit times, process reliability, and damage rates.
Jens Köster, Managing Director of the Geis Group, emphasizes that a powerful unit is being formed from the previous two IDS depots in Neuwied and Polch. The geographical area assignments and partner structures in the IDS network will remain unchanged, ensuring that the existing IDS areas continue to be served.
Continuity for Employees
The consolidation of operational processes is being carried out in a planned manner. The administration and non-operational departments, such as accounting, human resources, and sales, will remain in Neuwied. The familiar contacts for customers will remain in place, and the service quality is expected to be further strengthened through the consolidated processes. Affected employees have been informed about the planned measures and will be supported during the transition. Since the locations are close to each other, there is the possibility of working at the Polch site in the future.
The Geis Group also benefits from a modern logistics infrastructure. The new Logistics Campus is directly connected to a recently expanded logistics center, enabling seamless transitions between warehousing and transshipment. Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis state that the consolidation in Polch will strengthen freight performance in the Middle Rhine region and create a stable foundation for further growth.
