Jan 27, 2026 at 4:14 PMDHL Group has announced that the GoTeach initiative, which has been working for 15 years to improve the employment prospects of young people, will be extended for another five years. This decision underscores the ongoing partnership with the organizations Teach For All and SOS Children’s Villages until 2030.
The GoTeach program was launched in 2010 with the aim of addressing one of the most pressing global challenges, youth unemployment. It connects young people, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, with DHL employees who act as mentors. These mentors help the youth develop practical skills, build self-confidence, and establish professional networks that are crucial for a successful entry into the job market.
Thomas Ogilvie, Chief Human Resources Officer at DHL Group and board member of Teach For All, emphasizes the importance of the program: „Access to education and real career opportunities should not be a privilege, but a right for every young person.“ He highlights that supporting young people in a changing labor market is of great importance.
From Madagascar to the World: The Development of GoTeach
The initiative began as a pilot project in Madagascar, where it originally aimed to help 15 young people transition from school to work. Today, GoTeach has evolved into a global initiative with over 7,000 participants in Madagascar. The program has also established itself as a talent incubator, as 40 former participants have secured permanent positions at DHL. Each year, more than 400 young people in the region benefit from the program’s offerings.
In the USA, the „My First Job“ initiative introduced a new concept in 2023 that goes beyond traditional training. In one-year intensive internships, young people gain practical work experience, with more than 25 participants having secured permanent positions at DHL, resulting in a retention rate of 50%.
In Romania, GoTeach collaborates with various companies, including Paragon and Aerostar, to provide young people with insights into different industries. This collaboration broadens the participants‘ perspectives and enhances their chances in the job market.
Outlook for the Future
Thomas Ogilvie highlights the personal commitment of the employees: „Our volunteers not only give their time; they open doors and share their own experiences.“ DHL Group plans to expand the reach of GoTeach through additional partnerships and strengthen the culture of volunteering within the company.
Wendy Kopp, CEO and co-founder of Teach For All, emphasizes the importance of the partnership with DHL Group for the entire network and looks forward to future collaboration to equip young people with the confidence needed for a modern economy.
In the coming years, GoTeach will continue to work on expanding the initiative and reaching even more young people to prepare them for the challenges of the labor market.
