The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has expanded its network for freight connections in Europe. With the introduction of new TransFER connections between Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania, the company is responding to the increasing demand for intermodal transport solutions, as it reports. The new connections include the routes TransFER Duisburg–Rotterdam and TransFER Salzburg–Offenbach, which are intended to improve accessibility to central logistics locations.
Connections to Strengthen Network
The TransFER connection Duisburg–Rotterdam will initially operate with three round trips per week. This route connects the logistics hub Rheinkamp near Duisburg with the port of Rotterdam. From Duisburg, further destinations in Western and Northern Europe as well as Central and Southeastern Europe can be reached by rail, the company reports.
Additionally, a nonstop connection between Salzburg and Offenbach will be established, operating twice a week. This connection provides a direct link between the railway hub Salzburg and the logistics location Offenbach in the Rhine-Main area. Through this, the company aims to offer a reliable transport solution, as it states.
Intermodal Traffic Adjusted
In the area of intermodal traffic, RCG has also made adjustments. The previous TransFER between Genk and Curtici is now offered as TransFER Liège–Curtici and includes seven weekly round trips from Liège. The location in Liège provides access to the North Sea ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Zeebrugge. Christoph Grasl, board member of the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group, emphasizes the importance of these expansions: “The further development of our TransFER connections shows how consistently we align our offerings with the needs of our customers.” The new connections are intended to facilitate the transition to rail transport.
